Sir,

I am directed by the Lords Commissioners of Her

Majesty's Treasury to acknowledge the receipt of your

letter of the 18th instant, with its enclosures, relative

to the deposit of Japanese Bonds in part security of the

Hong Kong note-issue of the Chartered Bank of India,

Australia and China.

Their Lordships will be glad to be favoured by

the Secretary of State in due course with similar informa-

tion respecting the deposit of Bonds in the Straits

Settlements.
